It is a high-grade dye used for dyeing cellulose fibres such as cotton and linen. Its characteristic is that it is insoluble in water; under alkaline conditions, it must be converted into a soluble latent dye by the action of a reducing agent (sodium dithionite) to dye the fibres, after which it is oxidised to develop colour, returning to an insoluble state and adhering firmly.
This dye offers a comprehensive colour range and vivid hues, with its most notable advantage being its exceptional fastness to light, washing and chlorine bleaching. Although the process is complex and the cost relatively high, it is widely used in high-quality garments and home textiles due to its outstanding dyeing quality.
